Corn, Ornamental

Grown primarily for its decorative ears, the varied colors of ornamental corn complement the natural hues of autumn. Sow seeds when soil temperatures are 50-60°F. Plant at least 4 rows of seed, 24-36" apart for best pollination, and fertilize with a high nitrogen fertilizer once established. After husks have dried, harvest ears with a firm, downward motions to remove from the stalk. Keep the husks on and store in a protected, well-ventilated, dry area for a few more weeks of drying. Once dried, husks can be peeled back to reveal the beautiful, colorful ears.
