Winter Squash

Plant after the danger of frost, when soil is 60°F. Seed will not germinate in cool soil. Sow in rows 6-8 feet apart, 3 seeds per foot, thinning to 1 plant, or plant in hills 6 seeds per hill, thinning to 3 plants per hill 6-8' apart each way. Plant seeds 1" deep. Allow 9-12 days for germination. Well-rotted manure mixed into the bottom of each hill will help increase yields. When harvesting, leave stems on the squash. For best storage, do not wash and do not bruise.
